POP SPANKING! for Rob P!

Two paintings from a couple of years ago. I was very much exploring the idea of appropriating images from other media. These images were from cartoons by Eric Stanton. His adult comics of strong dominant women seemed perfectly edgy to make this Pop work stand out.

I think that this was my small way of trying to make something commercial and yet not playing by the rules completely. I was surprised by how much people liked them. They were large however and no-one was brave enough to take them home! Perhaps some small versions would have been the answer!

  1. I like these.. and they make me laugh.. I’m not sure why?

  2. Passion is never taught, Passion is never learnt, Passion is Life, Live life with Passion, Whether is be good or bad Passion, PASSION IS LIFE

  3. I’d forgot about those paintings, I remember seeing them in a gallery. Did you sell them. They remind me of some very, very old drawings I saw in a French second hand book shop this summer.

  4. I feel obliged to comment given the dedication – what can I say. I’m out of my depth but I’m amused, the guy in blue murder might even get his neck broken in that position. I like the insinuation of a red raw arse and added humiliation of being beaten with a toilet brush . . . . does it make me what to try it – hell no.

  5. thanks for the comments guys! Rob some of eric stantons stuff is pretty crazy! i even felt out of my depth!

Juliet people requested them to stay on display in the gallery as talking points for their events. But no i didnt sell, like i said a bit big i think! I guess there is a very long tradition of this sort of thing!

I cant see me making work like this again any time soon but the gloss pieces that I make now are really an evolution of this work!
