My name is Dean Melbourne I am an artist from the West Midlands in the U.K.
I have spent the last 10 years searching for my artistic identity. I have made work in a myriad of styles and used more materials and techniques than you can imagine. I have lacked in self belief.
Now more than ever I feel at comfortable in my skin and feel ready to make progress. This blog is intended to record and share that progress. Giving me a place to share my inspirations and ideas and to then look over them and find the threads that hold them together. It is a place also to talk about the highs and lows of the journey. This blog seems to make real my identity as an artist. It makes me feel less alone and much more hopeful that what i am doing isn’t pointless.
My influences are too many and too changeable to list here. I think all of my work though comes from a need to escape and build a new world that I would love to exist in.

Deano! What can i say, we’re having the end of Metapod drinkies and its a shame you were unable to join us. But we hear you’re in Scotland so all the best with that and with the business as a whole. Keep in touch-we are organising a metapod reunion for February, we’ll see you there

Helloo Dean, Amazing set up you’ve done here. Great to see your influences and after seeing your work first it all kinda slots into place. Your ink drawings (you know the slightly dark and shuddery stuff ‘what have we done’) in particular, but you put your very own slightly twisted stamp on it though

Thanks for the comment and yeah I remember you! Got your belated questionnaire last week – thanks! You seemed to get a lot from Metapod and was really great to meet you at CR Networking meeting – not sure I helped you really!
I really like your blog by the way, its nice to see work in progress.
Well, I go away for a few weeks and lookie here – a trip to Paris, a lovely new layout for the blog and a Saatchi profile. “Chaotic Soul” – very apt!
Seriously though, it’s looking great – an well on the way to 5,000 hits! Astonishing! Looking forward to the private view on Nov 1 – should be a goodie.
Glad to see/hear that your voice gets clearer and stronger by the day, that’s how it appears to me anyway!
Still want to hear more about Paris though!

Just a quickie really Dean…
I was thinking of coming to visit Wolverhampton Art Gallery and thought it would be better if you could show me round…are you around early next week? Or I should ask…are you off any time over the festive period?

Can you put an RSS feed capability on the blog so that I can subscribe and get updates sent to me rather then me having to remember to visit every now and again? i think it is a free option on wordpress…but you can always ask our pete to be sure.
